Make Ranch Mix From Scratch!
I'm not a mom who likes to overcomplicate things, especially when I'm in a busy season. Between milking cows and chasing the kids around various sports activities, there are certainly months when my hands are very full.
BUT, I do like to really get wild and make as much from scratch as possible when I have the time!
One of my biggest time saving and money saving hacks is making homemade ranch packets. This is just a really quick and easy seasoning mix that keep in a mason jar and use so many different ways! I love the taste of Hidden Valley classic ranch dressing, but when I flipped the bottle over to read the ingredients I was less than impressed.
This mix can make salad dressing, this cottage cheese dip, sour cream dip, Mississippi-style roast, seasoned French fries or in any recipe that I would have normally reached for a little packet of ranch mix.
Trust me, spend a few minutes measuring spices into a mason jar and thank yourself later! Here's an instagram reel if you want to see this process in short form video!

- Cottage Cheese
- Ranch Mix
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions

- Add both ingredients to a immersion blender, high-speed blender or food processor.

Storage
- Store this creamy ranch dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- This flavorful dip can be made ahead of time -- and the flavors just get better!
- Eat within 5 days.
- Do not freeze.
Top Tip
This is a thicker dip, but you can thin it out by adding 1 tablespoon at a time of either buttermilk, sour cream, greek yogurt or mayonnaise! If you accidentally add too much and your regular ranch dip turns into more of a ranch salad dressing, no biggie -- it will still be delicious!

Serving suggestions
We have a group of friends that we routinely have weekend dinners with -- the kids all play nice together and we adults have a blast.
My friend, Amy, always brings the same thing - an easy appetizer platter of chips and dip. She calls it 'charcoochie' (yes, I'm blushing as I type this) because it is the un-classy step sister of a charcuterie board.
Her version is plain salty potato chips and a ranch dip. You can laugh all you want, but the crowd ALWAYS eats her dip first! We've started using this easy cottage cheese dip recipe as a way to fool the kids into eating something a little healthier than the original.
I like to keep a small container of this cottage cheese ranch dressing deliciousness in the fridge next to a container of washed and prepped fresh vegetables. It makes it easier for the kids, and honestly, myself, to make a fast and easy snack choice when the afternoon munchies hit.
The thick texture holds up well to crunchy veggies like carrots, celery or broccoli.
Psst-- pin this recipe so you can easily find it later!

Helpful Tips
- Blend well! The cottage cheese wants to be chunky, but a creamy tends to be a true crowd pleaser!
- Refrigerate the dip for several hours (or days) before serving. This gives the main ingredients plenty of time to marry.
- Try the recipe as written the first time, then experiment with variations next time!
