let's unbox your oil kit!

January 20, 2019 by Meg Leave a Comment

So, you are staring at your Premium Starter Kit, feeling completely overwhelmed. Let me guess, are you considering hiding it in your closet and pretending like this whole thing never happened?

Am I close? I promise, this is totally normal.

You've got this. I'll help.

First, let's look at your diffuser. Take it out of the box and find the instructions. Did you get the Desert Mist? If so, there is a base, an inner lid and an outer cover. In the base, do you see the fill line?

When you add water, make sure never to fill past that line. Following this simple step will prolong the life of your diffuser!

I aways start low and slow with oils. The first time you diffuse, just use 2-3 drops of oils. You can add drops as desired. The Desert Mist diffuser recommends using no more than 8-10 drops of oil.

Locate the power button and experiment with the different settings after you've filled your diffuser. You can choose which light color you like, as well as the mist pattern. You can even choose no light at all!

When I got my first Desert Mist, I would move it back and forth from the living room during the day to the bedroom at night. I never wanted to be without it!

Now I want you to take your starter kit box and open it. The first thing you'll see is the display of ten oils. Pull the silk cord and lift them out.

Why don't you begin opening your oils, one at a time? I want you to open each oil, hold it about twelve inches from your nose and inhale deeply a few times. After about thirty seconds, bring it under your nose and take another breath. Wait a few minutes, and do the same process with the next oil.

As you are doing this exercise, be mindful of a few things:

How does the oil make you feel?

Do you love it? Hate it?

Can you remember what it’s for?

Now is a good time to review the basics about the oils: how to use essential oils (it's easy!)

Okay. Now I want you to find the hidden compartment at the bottom of your box. This is where you'll find your Thieves household Cleaner. Do you have a 16 ounce glass spray bottle? I like this style from Amazon. Essential oils don't mix with plastic, so make sure to always store oils or oil products in glass. Pour the cleaner packet into the bottle and fill with water.

I can't wait for you to fall in love with this cleaner! You can use it on any surface in your home.

Do you see your two packets of Ningxia red? They are so good cold, go ahead and toss them in the fridge for later. Ningxia is delicious on it's own, or try mixing a mocktail with sparkling water and a drop of Citrus Fresh Vitality.

Find your bottles of Stress Away and Peace and Calming. They are down there, too! You will also see two black lids and roller ball attachments that you can pop onto one of your oils. My favorite oil to attach the roller ball to is Valor. I love to roll Valor behind my ears, over my heart or on my wrists. I call it 'Brave in a Bottle.'

The hand purifier is the BEST! You will love it.

Thumb through the magazines. In the product guide, I like to circle oils that I'm interested in possibly ordering some day (kind of like my kids circle toys in the Target Christmas flyer... I suppose we never grow up)!

I made a list of health goals that I wanted oils to help support... sleep, anxiety, hormones. Creating a chemical free home was also a priority, so I have been switching out my household products for safer alternatives. Thanks to my diffuser, I don't even miss burning candles!

What is your reason for getting oils? Write down your goals and refer back to them when you place future orders.

Rollers are a great way to stretch your oils! Don't worry, diluting the oil doesn't decrease the effectiveness.

For members of my group, you will receive a welcome package in the mail from me! In this package you will find recipes for diffuser blends, roller blends and general usage information.

I also want you to locate your member identification number (for my members there's a postcard in your welcome kit, I took the liberty of writing your number on it!). This is how you can enroll any friends or family members who fall in love with your oils and want a kit of their own!

Did I mention you will get a thank you check from Young Living every time someone enrolls using your numbers? Yes, it's true! I'm always happy to help walk you through this process whenever it comes up.

You might have noticed that it can be difficult to get direct answers to questions like, "My child has a fever, which oils do I use?" This type of talk is considered noncompliant by the FDA so you won't find posts like that here.

If you want to dig deeper into oils, these are my favorite books:

Essential Oils Pocket Reference everything from the chemistry of oils to what exactly how and when to use them.  In the index you can search specific things like "Sore Throat" and read exactly which oils the experts recommend

Gentle Babies my favorite resource for professional recommendations of how to use oils for pregnancy, childbirth, babies and children. There is an actual 'Balance Guide' that gives clear details on precisely which oils to use for specific conditions and proper dilutions. Kids have delicate systems and it is important to know how to use oils safely with them

Game Plan this is for someone considering starting their own essential oil business. If you have bought your kit, you have everything you need to jump in! This book is very easy to read and helped answer all of my questions when I was deciding whether or not to start my own.  Spoiler alert, starting my oil business is one f the best decisions I ever made!

Essentials: 50 Answers to Common Questions about Essential Oils this book is written by a pharmacist and is very simple to understand. Concerned about using essential oils while on a blood thinner or a thyroid medication? She breaks it down for you in simple terms.

Please, please, please reach out to me if you have further questions! Any member of my group is more than welcome to connect with me for further oily education.

Oils have been such a blessing in my life and I want that for you, too! I love teaching classes (in person and online) and connecting with my oily friends.

You are all unboxed and ready to go! Jump in and be sure to message me if you get stuck!

You've got this!
