give me green

January 17, 2019 by Meg Leave a Comment

I counted my houseplants this morning and Marie Kondo probably wouldn't approve. Have you been watching her Netflix special? I have. If she has a rule for houseplants, I've intentionally blocked it out I guess.

For the holidays I always move the plants out of the way and tuck them in bedrooms or our sunny basement to make room for decorations.

Come January, I want green leaves all around the house to help brighten everything up. Purify the air!

One of my favorite hobbies is moving furniture around. However, I have another month left of lifting restrictions so I am going to have to be satisfied with moving plants and pillows.

And don't worry, I was strategic enough to move our crap out of the way before I snapped any pictures. You're welcome.

Pothos. This one has vines eight feet long! I just keep winding it around the console.
I wish I could tell you what kind of plant this is. I have no idea. It likes bright, indirect light and lots of water.
Pothos growing in a vase of water. Super easy.
the ferns on the wall are fake. Surprise!

If you're interested in how I care for the fiddle leaf fig, I talked about it this week on my @ninnescah_made instagram account.

The details are in my highlights.

This poor aloe vera plant looks terrible from every angle. It can't help but try to awkwardly fall out of the pot despite my best efforts to train it otherwise.

I've repotted it and rotated it away from the window, nothing works. It might be time to give it up... we will see.

That's a little snake plant behind the diffuser. They are a great houseplant for someone who doesn't think they have a green thumb. In a few years, this one could grow as tall as two feet!

My favorite diffuser blend these days is 2 drops each of Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint and Vetiver. It's fresh, clean and makes me feel like I'm in a yoga class.

Breathe in deeply, exhale slowly.

Seriously, though. Such a good combo.

I made some rollers for a friend and FINALLY finished my thank you cards for all of the kind friends who have helped us the last few weeks as I get back on my feet.

To each and every one of you, it you are greatly appreciated and I love you!

Let's hop out to the garden. It's still kind of pretty, even if nearly everything is dead and full of compost.

The picture above is strawberry spinach. It was NOT supposed to be a perennial, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it growing under the leaves. I'm crossing my fingers we can eat it next month.

It gets it's name from the bumpy red flower it grows when it bolts, in case you were wondering.

The frost was so pretty this morning I had to take a picture of it. The ice is melting away, but I hear we are in for another winter storm this weekend.

Yes, I wear my house slippers to do chores sometimes.

I saw a meme that said something like:

"It's Kansas. Tomorrow is a 90% chance of snow. Prepare for a blizzard, power outages and an apocalypse. Or possibly some nice sunshine and a barbecue. Either way, everyone needs to rush to the grocery store ASAP."

So true.

Well, that's all I've got for today. I hope we all get to see a nice, calm snow storm this weekend. Ha.
